Siren Section Coaching Values

Learning a new sport or skill is tough. Adding risk to the experience makes it a lot harder! At Siren Section, we acknowledge the challenges that come with learning. In this blog, you'll find a coaching value or three that you can apply to your hobbies.

To make the learning process easier at Siren Section, we bring three key values and tools:

  1. Break it all down.

  2. Work at your own pace.

  3. Ask for help!

Our goal as coaches is to make your experience enjoyable, while providing you with the skills to overcome your personal challenges. So, we start with turning every new trick or learning curve into small steps. The smaller the step, the easier it is for you to try!

Coaching Value #1: Break it all down

Ever heard us break it down in to 20 different steps? That's because we want to keep it simple. With every broken down step, we make it easier for you to say, "yes, I can try that", so that you can push yourself to advance. Rather than try the same attempt, our coaching value provides solutions to different issues that might arise as you're learning. This creates an opening for people of all backgrounds to achieve similar goals without having to do it the exact same way.

This may seem to only work for tricks, but it also applies to mental training, visualization, overcoming fear, and even making new friends. Every student has their strengths and weaknesses. This tool allows us to meet our students where they are at to help them push their limits.

Coaching Value #2: Work at Your Own Pace

The natural thought that aligns with sport is competition, but that's not what it's all about. Unless you're a high performance, sport can look like community gathering, friendships, failing together, laughs, self-improvement, and so many other scenarios.

Siren coaching encourages the students to all work at their own pace. There is no end goal for perfection or becoming better than others (unless you're asking us to send you to the X-Games or Olympics). Focusing of self-growth is a part of the process. Self-pacing creates opportunity for creativity and personality, but most importantly, being present. Being in the moment comes with focus and the formation of new memories.

That's why we value personal progress.

Coaching Value #3: Ask for Help!

Unfortunately, we've all succumbed to working alone and trying to get things done by ourselves. Our coaching philosophy counters this motion by encouraging students to ask for help.

Whether it's to hold your hand, or give you a cheer, we encourage Sirens to be present for one another to make learning less lonely.

Community is at the forefront of all the work we do. We pave the way for this cultural shift in surfing and skateboarding to maximize our experiences and rewards. Asking for help builds connection, mindfulness, and the humbleness to grow or improve.

We're here for both the ups AND the downs. Growth is a part of sport; we're here for it all.
